Sept 2017 – current: Freelance - UK
Freelance Designer and Marketing Consultant
Over the last few months I have had the opportunity to work for several companies offering my experience and expertise in marketing and design as a freelance consultant. Projects I have worked on include website launches, brochure designs, logo designs, SEO improvements and blog writing.
Most of my clients are former employers who have entrusted me with their work, with success. For example, the recent website launch, blog content and SEO work performed for Prism Glass has resulted in regular quote and work requests from new customers. I also work on a consultancy basis for a regulated FCA company where I am responsible for all marketing ensuring that these activities are both successful and compliant.
Nov 2015 - Sept 2017: Prism Glass - UK
Project and Operations Director
At Prism Glass, I helped the company grow by creating a recruitment and development plan. Overall our work force increased by 40%, allowing the business to grow and take on larger, more profitable projects. My improvements on budget tracking, reporting and project plans for larger projects ensured we achieved profit targets, quality workmanship and deadlines. Key to this was improving our estimating and quantity surveying process. Responsibilities included overseeing day-to-day operations, designating jobs to teams, project planning and management. This included briefing the team with work details and regularly following up during the day to ensure our targets were met.
Nov 2011 to Oct 2015: Union Income (Part of Union Income Benefit Group) - UK
Head of Prepaid Card and Rewards
A key achievement as the Prepaid Card Manager was migrating existing cardholders to the new prepaid MasterCard® card programme. During my time at Union Income, acquisition increased through digital marketing channels significantly reducing the CPA. By 2015, we had 6 card programmes and 6 new rewards services launched for some of the biggest unions in the UK, including UNISON, Unite and Usdaw. Responsibilities included overseeing all marketing and promotional activity – including creative, marketing strategy, approval and implementation.
Feb 2008 to Oct 2011: AFI Print & Design (Part of Union Income Benefit Group) - UK
Senior Designer and Account Manager
A key achievement was the development of our successful VDP (variable data printing) campaigns which used complex personalisation tools, where elements including (brand, images, copy and more) are personalised to customer profiles. I also improved mailing packs, reducing costs and resulting in more leads for the business. Responsibilities included designing, planning and managing major marketing campaigns with a view to increase response rates and sales – including lead generation, product promotions, variable data campaigns, cross-sell and retention campaigns.
Sept 2006 to Feb 2008: Freelance - Portugal
Freelance Graphic Designer
In this short period of freelancing I accumulated 6 local and 5 international clients, most of which was achieved through word of mouth and reputation. Responsibilities included design work based on client briefs, preparing client presentations for prospective work and obtaining production quotes to match client budgets.
Aug 2005 to Aug 2006: Arta Design – Portugal
Graphic Designer and Studio Manager
Within a few months, I became the Account Manager for Arta’s two primary client accounts - Garvetur and Visacar. As studio manager, I ensured jobs in the studio were prepared correctly, quality was to the highest standard and deadlines were met.
Nov 2000 to Aug 2005: Atelier do Sul – Portugal
Graphic Designer
Within a short period of time, I was promoted from studio junior to artworker, and then graphic designer. I was responsible for most major artwork jobs and general running of the studio during the studio manager’s absence.

During my career, I have accumulated over 15 years of graphic design experience, seven years in marketing and five years in project management. I have extensive management training and experience, having held positions such as studio manager, senior account manager, department head, project manager and operations director. My hands-on experience and broad of range of roles, along with my creativity and organisational skills, would be a valuable addition to any organisation.
